There are so many awesome things to do in Busan. Cafe hopping is just one of them. It’s a good choice because there are some beautiful brunch cafes in Busan. And because Busan is only 90 minutes away, it’s the perfect weekend destination for foodies and cafe enthusiasts. With Gamcheon Village’s population shrinking, the residents got creative and decided to build larger, more permanent homes and attract the new tourist trade. They decided to paint the exteriors of their shops and homes bright colors and turn the village into a cultural center with the installation of tiled art, sculpture and museums as random as early history and dolls.
The Remembrance Wall is quite sobering. The wall is constructed out of beautiful black marble that is reflective. As you read the names, you also see your image. I couldn’t help but see myself in every name on the wall and there are so many. Too many. We wandered around the beautifully carved memorial where more than 40,896 souls from all over the world are carved in perpetuity this past Memorial Day weekend and I’m so glad we did.
What can I say? I have good instincts. I found the Sunset Business Hotel on www.booking.com. It doesn’t include breakfast, something I usually look for, but it near restaurants, the Metro and the beach and the room looked nice. It’s near everything you’d need for the weekend and best of it all it costs $59 per night and came with free coffee and a view.
Busan has great food. Every now and then I crave something that’s really savory like a thick and juicy hamburger that is not smothered in a sweet sauce. I want something I didn’t cook myself, have to guess what it is, comes on a stick or was alive two minutes ago. There are restaurants that serve French, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Spanish Tapas and of course Korean BBQ– a little something from every corner of the globe.
