Tips for Stress-Free Travel

Combat Eye & Mental Strain

Limit your time on your phone/ computer. The prolonged electronic light and sometimes ridiculous nature of social media can make anyone crazy. Don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Not only will it keep you hydrated but it’s proven to contribute to stress-free travel and help with your mental acuity as well.

For Happiness & Relaxation

Use essential oils like peppermint and lavender to foster energy and good REM sleep, respectively. Make sure you get enough sunlight– I can’t tell you how much a beautiful sunny day does wonder for your heart and your hands. Don’t forget your sunglass and sunblock.

Take a Walking Tour

Some will argue that there is no such thing as stress-free travel. Your biggest weapon is to keep up with your exercise routine. Keep your mind clear of negativity and fill your lungs with fresh air. Luckily many vacation destinations have instructor-led activities like yoga and meditation. Watch what you eat and drink… enjoy that yummy wine, but remember moderation is still key.

Get the Most from Your Vacation

Avoid high season and crowds, do your research and have a Plan A, a Plan B… you may even want to have a Plan C just in case. Don’t overdo it, alternate high energy activities with periods of rest and relaxation.

Pack for Comfort

Pack comfortable shoes and clothing that makes you feel good while you look good. The last thing you want to do is sit it out because your feet hurt.

Make sure you water your plants or place your pets in good hands. It may seem odd at first, but make your bed before you leave. It’s always nice to come home to my nicely made bed. It just extends the vacation a few extra hours.

Don’t Overpack

You want to be able to move quickly. It sucks to lug around a lot of luggage. Here in Asia, many of the flights are red-eyes that include long delays that are made more stressful if you have a lot of luggage to transfer, watch and lift. And… you may have to deal with lots of stairs, narrow spaces, and expensive checked baggage costs.

Know your Budget

Avoid the money blues and stick to it. Make sure your bills are paid through your travels. Look for deals, use those points. I like to pay for most of my trip before I even pack my suitcase. I know my hubby hates to come home from a great trip to a stack of credit card bills.

Tips When You Have Kids

There is no way around it, kids will heighten the stress level whether you are going across town or across the ocean. Knowing this in advance somehow lessens the impact when it happens. Being prepared is key. Make sure you have their favorite toy, all the necessities, some extra patience, and your favorite toys (LOL) close at hand.
